Re: Waterlust sailing canoe in Norway

Yeah, looking at your earlier pics I had a hunch you'd suss it out without too much trouble. You're doing a fine job of building yours!

With a kit I'd have to think those center points would have been indicated by small holes (not unlike those for wire stitches) where the mounting fastener holes should go. Even with that though, owing to the potential uncertainties of positions in any build, calculating them based on as-built dimensions may give a better result.

Do keep in mind that, once fitted, the amas should have a slight degree of 'toe-in' or at minimum have their long axis parallel to that of the central hull. 'Toe-out' is to be avoided at all costs!

Nice work, Rhbush!

Where did you get that seat design?

I've started using the Hobie Drive more often, and am cursing the bulky CLC cane seat...

Funny that... I haven't had my 'lust out in two years (various reasons) but the urge to get her out again, even with just the Mirage drive alone, is still there.

But I hate the seat my wife gave me for Christmas - at my suggestion - during my build.

And I asked the same question!! RBush replied, it's in a post from a few weeks ago.

Almost there. Primer on the amas and the aka, should have final coat of paint in the next few days. Rigging is mostly set up but will need some adjustments. There is nothing in the plans for cleating off the mainsheet. I know... you never cleat off the main, but the reality is that you will need to sometimes. Does anyone have a setup for the main that they are really happy with?

How exciting to have a new face here! Your build is looking really great Rhbush - I am sorry I missed out on many of your calls for advice -I see SP has managed to furnish you with advice. I wish you best of luck with your first sail!  Regarding cleating the mainsheet - I do (especially when sailing with the outriggers) - I attached a simple cleat to the back of the daggerboard case. I find it's ok - but I do sometimes wonder if a bock with jam cleat might be easier

Here are a few snaps from a recent weekend trip to Sweden with the DCA

It was blowing about 20kts this day - so I just ditched the mainsail and used the mizzen. I need a better 'small' mast for that as it wasn't ideal just placing the mizzen mast in the main mast step!

The effort was worth it mind you!

Re: Waterlust sailing canoe in Norway

Welcome Rhbush!
Sorry not to have greeted you earlier. Yours looks like a top quality build. Well done!
I have been fitting Gaia out for cruising and experimenting with stowage etc. I think I have found the ideal tent solution!
If you google 'Amazon trecking tent personal bivvy tent one man' you will see a rather unusual tent for only £25.00 - Unusual  because it has a zip along the ridge line!
For the Waterlust I cut the floor out leaving about 100mm all the way round and used a strip of this to glue along the zip to make it waterproof. I then fitted four shock cords (one to each corner) and it fits very nicely over the cockpit.
Here is a video.  https://youtube.com/shorts/atb6zGeMjwI?feature=shared
I have been on a few expeditions this summer but there has been very little wind here each time I set off so the Hobie drive has come into its own. I will post a few more of my 'live-aboard' modifications soon.
Regards to you all.

Re: Waterlust sailing canoe in Norway

Here are a few videos I filmed very badly (Please forgive my appalling tech skills) showing how I have fitted out Gaia for cruising and living onboard - for short periods!.
I won't be to everyone's taste but it works for me. Do ask if you would like any further details.
