Ullswater

I had a free morning on Saturday, staying with friends in the Lakes. Setting out from Glenridding, the idea was Paddle Out, Steamer Home. The lake was still, with just a party of three canoes over the other side who got out even earlier than I did.

The chart on the deck is a download from a well known survey site where you can Get A Map (annual subscription), printed out on waterproof paper. It held up all day, even with a double sided print.

The journey ahead, and a tiny habour on an island for a rest stop.

       

A beck joins the lake on the eastern shore, before an early lunch at Howtown.

By now a sou westerly was starting to pick up, so I went under the bridge to the get-out at Pooley Bridge, then ran back just in time to leap aboard the ship to shuttle back to Glenridding.

I had an hour or two left as the family were still stuck on the M6. By now, Autumn was now starting to roll up the lake, and whilst upwind the waves were breaking over the bow, downwind I could surf the swell back for a brew, and take in the last rays of the summer.
