Chesapeake 16 small deck beam

The Chesapeake 16 has a small deck beam quite close to the bow. I couldn't find it in my kit - maybe I lost it or discarded it by mistake, I don't know - so I made one easily from a piece of scrap wood. But now that the deck is on, there's a very small hump above the small deck beam - too small to see, really, but I can feel it. So I wonder whether this small deck beam is necessary at all. The deck is almost flat at that point and the hull is narrow, so I don't think the extra support is really needed. Any thoughts?
