Paddle 2011 Scotland's Canoe & Kayak Show Perth 22nd - 23rd October

Fyne Boats will have a stand at the show containing various boats.  If you are planning on visiting and want to see a particular boat please let us know. We shall be taking kits etc. for customers who have pre-ordered thus saving on delivery charges.

We have just set up the stand and the hall is looking good.

We have the ultra light Endurance Tandem in launch position as well as the following boats for visitors to see:

Mill Creek with sailing rig

Chesapeake Triple
Canadian Canoe partially built (so that you can see how it is done)

Thank you to those of you who visited us at the show.  We shall try to summarize the main questions we were asked and post them in the next few days.  In the meantime, the most asked question was about whether the boats are really that light.  The question was asked in a variety of ways but the answer is always the same “yes the fully rigged 23 foot kayak does weigh less than 12 kg because we use very light and strong wood to produce fast and easy to handle boats”.

I hope that you all enjoyed the show.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us last weekend at the show, it was really good to meet you all.

The plans for the Shearwater 17 giveaway, were walked away by K. S. and Wood Duck 12 by S. L.

The questions that came up the most frequently are as follows:

Q.  How durable are the boats? 
A.  Very durable.  I would be very happy taking these boats anywhere you would take a boat made from other materials (fibreglass, composite etc).  If you did the worst and holed it, then as you know the guts of the boat, having built it, you will be able to fix it easily.  Any repair like that can be done so that it is pretty much invisible, and it will probably end up being stronger than before the damage.

Q.  How much maintanance is required? 
A.  Marginly more than other boats.  We recommend a light rub down and re-varnish once a year.  If you scratch it deeply then it should be repaired as a matter of urgency, as you would for any boat.

Q.  How do they handle? 
A.  As they have not come from a mould, it is easier to get a very fine point at the bow and stern which makes for very efficient paddling.  The dead straight keel line means you go in a stright line without the drag of a rudder / skeg.  Overall, less wobble (inefficiency) and more power transfered from paddling to going forward.
