Re: Wood Duck 12 Hybrid Build Diary

Thanks.  Yes, last pic was the final epoxy coat.  I was too aggressive with the sander and had to re-do several bits.  Spoke to Fyne today and they suggested sanding and varnishing large part of the interior cockpit so more dust!  Also been looking at CLC website re best method for varnish - going to start on the upturned hull and see how I get on.  Still feels quite a way to go!  Best. Re: Wood Duck 12 Hybrid Build Diary

Two coats of varnish on - slow progress.  Using a roller and synthetic brush to iron out and seems to work ok.  Hoping to finish in the next week or so.

Re: Wood Duck 12 Hybrid Build Diary

Looking really good. The pale wood strips set off the design very well.

Watch the varnish is really dry in these cooler times. I found it too several days before it was properly hard. When I rigged the shockcords I found they left an imprint of the weave in the surface although I thought it was fully dry.

Re: Wood Duck 12 Hybrid Build Diary

Thank you.  I had quite a few problems with the hatch - you may recall I had problems fixing the deck to to the hull and particularly  around the bulkhead (see earlier pic).  The deck changed shape so the original hatch did not fit and I ended up having to make another (the strips do not match perfectly but you cant really tell unless you look closely). I also sanded down the underside edges of the hatch to make it bend a little to fit the shape of the deck and the extra toggles behind the seat covered up the earlier split!  All fun and games!

Hoping to launch next weekend on the Thames once I have sourced a paddle and bits for my roof rack.  My mates (and closer family) all seem to think its going to sink!  Will post picture of it floating!  I noticed your launch pic in the summer - looks great.

Feeling rather lost now its finished....thinking of a Tenderley 10 or the camper! best. J

Re: Wood Duck 12 Hybrid Build Diary

My experience is that although my little errors are glaringly obvious to me, nobody else can see them.

I'm happy to be using mine now, in both good and bad weather, No other projects planned-the garage is a bit full as it is.
