Fitting hardware & rigging

I am ready to fit hardware and rig my Skerry. Pretty exciting.

As a general rule I understand that the best practice is to put a blob of thickened epoxy on all screw fittings, to make sure that the ply stays moisture free, but this does of course mean that if I ever need to move a fitting, the screws may be hard to remove. Would marine caulk do a good enough job?

Also, when fitting the buoyancy hatches does the seal need caulking or is this not necessary?

Any other tips for fitting hardware?

Re: Fitting hardware & rigging

OK, As usual some more judicious 'reading of the manual' has revealed the answers to some of these questions...The manual recommends silicone for these wee jobs, so that is what I'll use..!

Re: Fitting hardware & rigging

Fit hatches with the hatch still screwed into the baseplate.  If you remove it then the baseplate distorts so much that you cannot screw the hatch in.  Obvious now but not so obvious when I fitted some.
