Fitting brass keel band

Hello,

When fitting the brass keel band to my Houdini should I just use screws or should I also bed it into some sort of adhesive such as thickened epoxy or a sealant/epoxy like Sikaflex?

Any guidance appreciated.

Re: Fitting brass keel band

You should use silica bronze screws for this job.  I have found that it needs to be bent around the bow before drilling the holes because it creases at the hole when bending and becomes impossible to flatten again.  If you glue it then you will h ave problems if you ever need to remove it.

Re: Fitting brass keel band

Thanks for the advice. I was on the verge of pre drilling it while straight, but I can see what you mean about creasing it at what will become a point of weakness.
