Cloth too thin

Hi,

I bought glass cloth from you, some time ago, the problem is that the boat has a wider profile than 1.27m. My question is should I cut a stitch some extra on so it reaches all the way to the edge of the boat or will it not matter having a gap with no cloth?

Hi Thom, and welcome to the forum.

I would cut a patch to cover the edge as you suggest.  You can join the two pieces simply by overlapping them about 1-2 inches.  Once the epoxy has cured, you can then carefully sand the exposed edge of the upper layer to remove the step before applying a fill coat and the join will be invisible.

Depending on the shape of the boat, it is sometimes easier to run the fabric across the boat in sections, with an overlap every 1.27m instead of a single join along most of the length of the boat.
