Gunwales

Hi - I am building a 15' cedar strip canoe. I am currently looking for ash gunwales, i.e. two 15' inwales, and two 15' outwales. I also would like an ash keel, and plan to use an extra 15' length for this purpose.

Fyneboatkits supply a 'pair' of canoe gunwales.

However I am unclear whether a 'pair' on your product description means two sets of strips sufficient for two outwales (4 strips) or two inwales (4 strips), or both (8 strips); or whether it refers to just two strips of wood to create one inwale or outwale by scarf jointing them.

Please could you clarify?

Thanks

Re: Gunwales

I am sorry about the confusion.  When we say a pair of gunwales we are referring to two lengths of wood one to fit on the port side of the canoe and one to fit on the starboard side.  They can be used as either an outwale or an inwale. Each of the lengths is made from two or three pieces of wood, with the joints pre-cut, for ease of transport.

Re: Gunwales

I've just amended the description to make it clearer.  Thanks for pointing this out.
