Chester Yawl Sonic Blue

Built over the summer in my (unpowered) garage in Bath. Car-topped to Co Cork for November hol. Maiden voyage yesterday. Lovely experience, glow of pride! Rowing position, oar collars and rowlock location will need adjustment in future: my not inconsiderable bulk is a little too far forward.  11ffe1ee-76ab-4432-8d90-246f20ed255f.jpg16cad563-d5ae-4ab9-a77f-9bd793518f54.jpg0980bbcf-62a7-4665-80f1-ddb55f378164.jpg

IMG_3195.jpgCar topping is possible and practicable but you do need two robust individuals to do the lifting. We nearly opened the launch libation at the ferry terminal, it was so wet at 12.30am!

Congratulations on a successful launch!  She looks very handsome.

It's interesting how the paint looks a totally different colour in different photos -- white in bright sunlight, but definitely blue atop the car.

Hi Ian - I’m absolutely delighted and slightly amazed! just counted back - about 32 weeks from delivery to launch. The colour was chosen to mimic Fender Sonic Blue, and it does indeed look different in sunlight vs shade.IMG_3127.jpg

Re: Chester Yawl Sonic Blue

Well done on your build and launch.

I just looked at the waterline in your photos and checked the plans and you are just a smidge bow down by around half a panel.  With you near the middle of the boat it will not be much of a move to make the adjustment.  You could maybe counter it by putting your gear / supplies in the rear?

We hope you have many adventures in your beautiful boat.

Re: Chester Yawl Sonic Blue

Hi Phil - thanks for that comment, that’s really useful. I’m planning a small upgrade in spring next year and will bear what you suggest in mind. Stores in the aft end makes sense. Or a crate of beer on the back seat…
Seriously, I’m delighted, and thanks for the early advice. As the build went on I gained confidence and needed fewer pointers but those early days were nervous ones :-). Now I want to catch a fish.
